ICARIADA TRAVEL organizes and sponsors a variety of fun and interesting cruises and excursions within and outside of Ikaria. There are boat trips to the nearby islands of Patmos and Fourni, Jeep Safaris around Ikaria’s rugged mountain interior and guided coach tours of Ikaria’s sights and attractions just to name a few possibilities.

PATMOS

Patmos can be reached by boat in 55 minutes by Hydrofoil or via our own ship ” Taxiarxis”. We operate return day trips to Patmos 1-2 times per week in the summer. Departure is in the morning from Agios Kirkos, Ikaria and return to Ikaria is in the late afternoon. The trip allows enough time for visiting the monastery, lunch, and shopping/swimming.

The island owes its fame mainly to the Monastery of St. John the Theologian whose library houses priceless manuscripts and icons. In the cave nearby, St. John saw the visions that inspired the Book of Revelations. The cave and the impressive monastery are open to visitors. The day trip to the island also leaves ample time for lunch in the scenic port of Scalla, sightseeing, our just relaxing on the beach before boarding the ship for return to Ikaria.

IKARIA ISLAND TOUR

Pick up from the hotel at about 09:30 where your tour through the scenic and beautiful island of Ikaria will commence via air conditioned coach. We will first visit the village of Kampos and its archeological museum which contains a collection of neolithic tools and vessels from antiquity. This side of the island is known for its fertile vegetation, charming bays and sandy beaches. We will stop for swimming on the beautiful beach of Messakti, in Yialiskari, followed by lunch in a seaside taverna. The eastern part of the island features rustic surroundings and a panoramic view of the Aegean sea and the nearby islands. We continue with a visit to Therma, a seaside village renowned for its medicinal radioenergic mineral springs unique in the world for their effectiveness in the treatment of rheumatism, artthritics and other ailments. Lastly we visit the capital of Ikaria, Agios Kyrikos.

FOURNOI

A group of islets between Ikaria and Samos featuring an intricately shaped coast line. The islets are so close to one another that they give the impression of forming a whole island. The islets offer beautiful coves with clear waters, picturesque fishing villages, serenity and hospitable inhabitants. The narrow crossings between the islets are ideal for boat trips. The sites include beautiful caves and sandy beaches. They are situated on the main island of Chrisomilias which has a protected bay with a small village and a few rented rooms. There is a small fishing village on the adjoining island of Thymaina. A third islet called Agios Minas is only inhabited by a few shepherds.

Ikariada Travel operates daily trips to Fourni during the summer abour our ship “Taxiarxis”.
